Winter Break
Happy Holidays! I had a wonderful Christmas and I can't wait till the new year. One thing that's cool about UNC is that I get a whole month off for winter break. Finals ended on the 9th and the first day of spring semester starts on January 9th. I remember my first semester of college and I had no idea that classes were only one semester. Unlike high school where classes are a year long and you dreaded going back to school after winter break. At UNC you get a whole new set of classes each semester. I get excited to go back after winter break because it's like a whole new school year for me. I am enjoying my break but I am also looking forward to next semester. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year.

Finals Week!!!
This is the time of year that I start pulling out my hair. It's finals week at UNC. It is the most stressful time of the semester. It's when everything is due and when you have to study for all of your classes finals. This semester I have 4 finals, one everyday, Monday through Thursday. I just finished my last final today and it feels awesome. The nice thing is that the university tries and to make this time of the year less stressful. They have chair massages at the library and study breaks at the dinning halls. Each night they have a different snack for the study break. My favorite so far has been the chilie cheese fries and tonight it's soft pretzels. The end of semester is a bitter sweet time. It's a stressful, happy, and sad time. I'm excited to be on break, I'm stressed from my finals, and I'm sad because I have had some classes this semester that I will miss. But I am excited to start next semester. I get to take my Public Relations and Advertising classes, which is my major, so you can see why I'm excited. But for now let the holiday season begin. I hope you all have a wonderful start to your Christmas Season!

Drag Show
I recently attended a drag show here at UNC. It was put on by Spectrum which is the LGBTA community here at UNC. They had drag queens from all over come and perform to raise money for Rainbow Alley. They are an organization that is a resource for gay, bisexual, or confused teens. They had veteran performers and they had others that were performing for the first time. They had two acts of the show and served brownies at intermission. The hosts of the show were really funny. One of the host was a drag queen named Cascade Phoenix and the other was a young lady that is a part of the spectrum community here at UNC.
I have never been to a drag show before so I didn't know what to expect. I was quite surprised when the show started. Many of the performers danced in lingerie and lip sync to the songs they choose. All together the show was very entertaining and they raised more than $200 for Rainbow Alley. Personally, I'm heading into my last week of this semester and getting ready for finals next week. Wish me luck!

B-I-N-G-O!!!
Now when I say B-I-N-G-O I know a lot of people thing about a bunch of older people all sitting around with there dotting markers as a guys with a monotone voice calls out the letters and number, but UNC B-I-N-G-O is like nothing you have ever experienced. Its takes place in the big ballrooms at the University Center right in the middle of campus. Tons of UNC student show up pumped and excited to be at B-I-N-G-O. Plus if your one of the first 50 people there you get a free t-shirt. This year the shirt is black with a bright pink B... Is for B-I-N-G-O and every semester they change the shirt and the color. Then you go inside and they actually have UNC student radio there so its like we have our very own d.j. Then when B-I-N-G-O starts they have a very funny announcer who is a UNC student. I guarantee he will make you laugh. There are 5 rounds that spell out U-N-C-O and then an X. They have really cool prizes like gift cards, hoodies and tickets to sport games. Last time I was there the grand prize was a pair of Avalanche tickets. Let me tell you, when you are one number away from calling B-I-N-G-O your adrenalin is pumping. Even if you don't win its still a great time with friends and sometimes you even make new friends. So before you judge me about going to B-I-N-G-O give it a try and you will see just how much it can be.

Choosing My Destiny
When I first came to UNC I actually wanted to go into theatre and be a theatre major. Unfortunately after my audition my dreams were crushed cause I found out I was pretty bad at acting. So I came to UNC as an undeclared freshman. I loved my first semester cause I got to take a ton of fun classes that sounded interesting. I took classes like world archeology, contemporary Germany, and The Cosmos. I actually didn't end up choosing my major until my second year of college when my mom told me that I should look into journalism cause I have always been told that I was a talented writer. So I ended up taking an intro class and declare myself a Pre-Journalism major. The journalism major at UNC has three emphasis: telecommunications, news editorial, and public relations and advertising media. When starting on my path I was pretty set on going into a news editorial emphasis and writing for some sort of newspaper or something like that. So I ended up taking news writing this semester. I did not like it at all. I found out that news writing was NOT for me but luckily I was also taking a intro to marketing class that I loved. For some reason the information I was learning was so interesting to me. The problem was that at UNC the marketing degree is a business degree and I knew that wasn't for me either. Luckily something amazing happened and I realized that an emphasis in public relations and advertising media was very similar to marketing and all of a sudden I became very excited. Now I love to tell people what my major is even if they don't ask. I'm so excited for my future and I can't wait for my classes next semester. Hi my name is Maegan and I am a Journalism major with an emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising media. Now I just have to decide on my minor.

Snow Day!!!
Hey everyone I don't know if you heard but UNC had a snow day last week. That never happens! In my 2 years here I have never had a snow day at UNC. I had no classes so I stayed inside watched Halloween movies and drank some hot chocolate. Unfortunately the kids on central campus were not as lucky as I was. They ended up losing power so they were stuck in their room with no electricity. The good thing was everyone was out side enjoying their first snow of the year. There was snow men all over the place and snow ball fights were going on left and right. I personally found myself participating but I called it quits after I got an ice cold snow ball right in the face. I tried to savor the day as much as I could because I don't see a snow day happening again. We had snow fall again this last Wednesday and the university snow plows were already out at 7 in the morning clearing the walkways. Halloween is over and the next up is Thanksgiving. Bring on the turkey and stuffing!

Nice to Meet You My Name is Maegan!
My name is Maegan and I am so excited to be starting this blog. Its something new for me but the fun thing about college is trying new things. I am a sophomore at UNC and i am a journalism major with an emphasis in public relations and advertising media. I still don't know what i want to do when I graduate but I still had a few more years to think about that. I am from Denver and I love UNC. I actually choose UNC when I was in 7th grade on a middle school field trip. I remember thinking that the campus was so pretty even though i came here on a snowy day. The whole campus was covered in snow and it was mesmerizing. Plus coming from a school with little funding it looked so nice. They had nice facilities, a rec center, smart classroom, and cool technology in almost every classroom. I look at other campuses but I just didn't like any as much as I liked UNC. One of the things I love about UNC is the food. It's really good! I think my favorite thing in the dinning hall would have to be the ice cream. That's right ice cream is available at lunch and dinner everyday and they sometimes have amazing flavors like green tea, root bear, eggnog, and pineapple. Another thing I like are the class sizes. I have always been known as a teachers pet so I like to get to know my professors and UNC has small class rooms so I get to know my professor and they get to know me. BINGO is also one of my hobbies here at UNC. It gets my adrenalin pupping and I have gotten at least 5 of my friends also addicted to it. I also like long walks on the beach and dancing in the rain, but only if its a warm rain. I cant wait to see what else UNC has in store for me and the fun part is that you get to hear all about it. Welcome to my blog! :)
